What truly helped me with the UX difference, was switching entierly to using an iPad for 30 days. It made me learn a lot as I now had to find ways to do simple things such as what you just described. Sometimes these tasks were very annoying to do on the iPad, sometimes they were a lot simpler than on a desktop.

But I do totally understand your point though, the iPad is a very different machine.
